Hotel Marina Copan
Copan
Honduras
About Us:
Our hotel has been at the heart of the Copan Experience since 1945.
Overlooking the Central Plaza in the charming town of Copan Ruinas, Honduras, the Hotel Marina Copan was named in honor of Doña Marina Welchez, and built on the site of her family home nearly 60 years ago.
A Copan tradition, ours was Copan's original hotel, home to generations of Maya investigators and enthusiasts.
Facilities & Services:
The Marina Copan experience starts with distinctive lodging. We offer 50 spacious rooms and suites designed in a classic colonial style. All rooms are fully furnished with air conditioning, ceiling fans, cable TV and phone.
Marina Copan Spa
The Marina Copan Hotel has a small gymnasium (under renovation) and sauna (above right) on the premises. The gym will reopen in October, 2004, and is open daily, from 6:00 am through 10:00 pm. The sauna is open daily from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Rules and regulations are posted at the spa, located facing the pool.
Rates:
All rates are based on a European Plan. Taxes included.
Of Special Note:
Since the early 1900's, archaeologists and other adventurers visiting Copan - including famed Maya expert Silvanus Morley - have enjoyed the hospitality of the family of Doña Marina Villamil de Welchez. Her family opened their own home to visitors for many years. In the 1930's, the Carnegie Institute in Washington, D.C., agreed to finance the excavation of the Acropolis, ushering in an era of increased visitation to the region.
In the mid 40's the family of Doña Marina decided to construct a comfortable lodging for the growing number of visitors. The Hotel Marina Copan was named in honor of Doña Marina, a tribute to her pioneering efforts to attract visitors to this remote corner of Honduras. The hotel was built on the site of her family home in 1945.
